To ensure a continuing supply of telephone numbers, sometimes an area code overlay is added to a geographic region. In 2016, the 463 area code was added to the area served by 317—but if you already has a telephone number with a 317 area code, nothing changes. If you’re getting a new phone number, however, you might receive one with a 463 area code.
To complete local calls, the dialing procedure requires callers to dial the 10-digit telephone number (area code + the 7-digit telephone number). This adheres to both 317 and 463 area codes.
